When we asked our Cape Town friends for recommendations of the best spas there were a few that kept coming up but we decided to go for the 12 Apostles as this was just down the road outside Camps Bay.

We booked in for The Ultimate Escape 4 hour full day package which included a full body massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, lunch, a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and use of the facilities all day.

Will I start with the negatives and end on a high? Well in all honesty we were a little disappointed with the facilities. There were 3 very small plunge pool sized pools and that was it. The ceilings were all very low and it was very dark. So it was relaxing but quite claustrophobic. The hotel has one of the most incredible views and it would have been nice to get some fresh air outside. We also didn't get our sparkling wine on arrival but that was made up for with a bottle with our lunch.

Speaking of lunch, we were offered to eat in the hotel but that meant getting dressed so we decided to stay in the spa. They were going to set us up in the Tranquillity Room but there were people sitting in it when our food arrived so we had to eat by the buffet table which was a little cramped and more busy. The menu was varied and the food was okay.

I guess that is kinda a lot of negatives. But there were a lot of positives too. The staff were absolutely lovely and the treatments were next level! You get a little tour on arrival and change into a comfy robe and slippers. Then you fill in a detailed form so they can tailor the treatments specifically - it covers everything from skin issues to your choice of music.

In between using the facilities and our treatments the healthy buffet table is an ever changing array of fruit juice, fresh fruit, muffins, dried fruit and nuts. Just perfect.

Finally, saving the best until last - an amazing full body massage, the best facial I've ever has and a manipedi that lasted 2 hours and used Essie nail polish, oh the dream.

Although the facilities weren't great I would still really recommend the 12 Apostles spa for the treatments, they were second to none, seriously.
