On arrival at La Residence we mentioned to the manager about cycling around Franschhoek and visiting some different wine estates. Dylan popped in after breakfast with a map and route around town with private wine tastings booked. A big shout out to him for making us feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble and he was absolutely fantastic at his job.

Franschhoek in the summer is really rather hot and surprisingly hilly. We hopped on our bikes feeling positive but it was decidedly hard work when we hit the first hill. It was worth it when we reached Black Elephant Vinters for our wine tasting though. The gentleman who co owned the estate was fantastic, more unusually pairing the wine with music rather than food.

The servings were generous and we were feeling a little giddy by end so he recommended wizzing all the way down the hill to Ryan's Kitchen for some lunch. We ordered several creative starters to share including the most divine beef tartar. If you are looking for modern and unique dishes, Ryan's Kitchen on Franschhoek main road is the place to head.

Now all we had to do was get back up the hill to our hotel!
