From the beginning of my research into Lisbon every single article/blogger mentioned Pastéis de Belém, the original creators of pastéis de nata. If you haven't heard of these (I hadn't!) they are a really yummy traditional Portuguese custard tart usually dusted with a sprinkling of icing sugar or cinnamon. This famous place is situated by Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in the Belém neighbourhood. In all honesty I didn't think these were worth the hype. They were nice but no better than any of the others I'd had in the city...
We walked out along the river so we could see Ponte 25 de Abril, very San Fran esque and caught our one and only TukTuk back to Bairro Alto for 10 Euros which was fun. Other things to see in the area include the Electricity Museum which is free but closed this summer for renovations, Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the mystical looking Torre de Belém.
